SOCIALS

Since opening VMMS in 2007, we have valued a more inclusive model both inside and outside the classrooms. We all can remember the traditional approach to middle school dances. We took a stance against dance only events. We believe in socials. Socials are defined as "living together in a community." Each year we have a fall and spring event that we call Socials. We offer games, music, food and an opportunity for students to interact
with each other in a student friendly setting. Keep your eyes out for the next social event!

THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) WINTER ENTREPRENEURSHIP EXPO
Using the Design Cycle, student's first plan to create a product using their innovation skills, then create the product, receive feedback and improve their design to submit a
product for the Expo. A group of teachers then asks students some quality control questions to push their thinking on their design and a final product is created. With these two experiences, students then take their final product to The International Baccalaureate (IB) Winter Entrepreneurship Expo, which is set for December 19, 2012 with sales from 2:00p.m. to 3:30p.m. Students, staff, parents and community members are invited to attend this event to support student innovation and design.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Winter Entrepreneurship Expo is a fun and enterprising way for students to produce and sell gift items just in time for the holidays. The Expo raises money for the math department while giving students the opportunity to learn about real-world issues like profit, supply and demand and showcase their creative talents. Below from left to right demonstrate student produced necklaces and custom clipboards from last year. Additional photos show students preparing for the Expo this
year.

Provide students with the opportunity to compete with other students in solving a range of math problems off and on campus. Our previous experiences have ranged from competing
at the San Diego Science Festival in a You CAN do the Rubik's Cube competition to math regional competitions.
