This week, you should know...
Please be aware that our annual tests of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science will occur at Vista Magnet Middle School in the coming weeks. This is an important opportunity for all students to demonstrate progress in their learning, and these tests also provide data for our school to understand how to best support our students. 8th grade students will test during the week of April 24th, 7th grade students will test during the week of May 1st, and 6th grade students will test during the week of May 8th. A full schedule and more information is available below.
On Saturday, April 29 from 8:00am - 4:00 pm, we will be enjoying a “Weekend of Service” campus beautification event, sponsored by North Coast Church. We invite all Viper families to come volunteer and help install some exciting new landscaping features. What a great way to serve your school! Infants and toddlers should not attend, please, due to safety concerns. Please RSVP to Mrs. Green by email if you can join us.
2017 CAASPP State Tests - ELA, Math, and Science
Each spring, California public school students in grades 6-8 take online assessments through the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system. State tests at Vista Magnet will occur on April 24-27 for 8th grade students, May 1-4 for 7th grade students, and May 8-11 for 6th grade students.

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Our vision in Vista Unified School District is to be the model of educational excellence and innovation.
The purpose of Vista Unified School District is to inspire each and every student to persevere as critical-thinking individuals who collaborate to solve real-world problems.
Respect: Treating all with dignity.
Trust: Having confidence that every decision focuses on the best interests of all students.
Collaboration: Working in a collective partnership with clear two-way dialogue that builds relationships among home, school and the community.
Students will be literate, reflective and critical thinkers in all areas of interaction who transfer knowledge and embrace diversity within a global society. Multiple opportunities for success through the implementation of an IB MYP aligned curriculum and utilizing differentiated instruction, technology, assessment and analysis of data will support academic achievement in a safe learning environment.
We envision a school community where all Members are respected, valued and empowered to be socially responsible decision makers in the 21st century.
This Week, You Should Know: Important Traffic Update.
Please remember that there is only one approved, safe, supervised student drop off and pick up location for VMMS - the entrance on Eucalyptus Avenue. The pool parking lot is unsupervised and not a safe place for students. In addition, the City of Vista has notified the District that parking regulations at Civic Center will now be enforced. Many parents wait in the drive lanes instead of parking. If you wish to use the Civic Center, then you must park your vehicles while you wait. You may not block entrances and exits. In the near future, the City will begin code enforcement and may issue parking tickets for failure to adhere to the rules of the parking lot.
AVID applications for the 2017-2018 school year will be due April 7th. Please click here for student application form.
VMMS application window for the 2017-2018 school year has closed
Our 6th grade class is full for the 2017-2018 school year, and as of 3/24/17 all 6th grade applicants have been informed if they have been accepted or placed on the waiting list. All applicants for 7th and 8th grade will be contacted during the month of April to be notified of their status.
Families who did not make the February 24th deadline may still apply to Vista Magnet but will go on our waiting list.

Important Instructions for Pick up and Drop off
Parents - please respect our neighboring businesses at the Rio Vista Professional Building, La Paloma parking lot, Civic Center and Citrus Avenue locations. We have had many complaints about parents dropping off and/or picking up students at these locations, causing dangerous conditions for our youngsters and congestion for local businesses. Also, do not pick up or drop off students in the Staff parking lot at the corner of Vista Village and Civic Center. Our safe, supervised drop off and pick up is at the Eucalyptus Avenue entrance to the school. Thank you. Full info on our Pick up/Drop off page.
